Support the work of the Centre...

Welcome to St Thomas' Church, Watford

Here at St Thomas' we're an all-age Christian community with members from many different countries of origin. Our church welcomes and cherishes the gifts of all, regardless of age, gender, class, race, sexual orientation or physical and mental ability. We meet together each Sunday at 10.00 a.m. with a range of activities for both adults and children.

Together we seek to explore the challenge of living a life of integrity and humanity in a complex world. We strive to bring the love of God to individuals, the community and the wider world in every way we can - through the daily lives of individual members, through our support for a wide range of charitable work and, not least, by offering the facilities of the St Thomas' Church Centre to the community. The Centre is used seven days a week by a wide variety of local organizations, many able to make only nominal contributions towards its costs.

 The United Reformed Church

St Thomas' is part of the United Reformed Church. With all Christians, we rest in God’s amazing grace and hear God’s voice in the words of Scripture. Yet the URC differs from some because we do not look for uniformity of belief.

The URC is a Church of open ideas, extravagant welcome and a commitment to justice. A passion for the dignity of every member leads us to place decision making with the members of each local church. We support liberty in our pulpits, just as we affirm the individual conscience of our members to agree, disagree and wrestle with life’s biggest questions in a spirit of love.

The traditions which came together in 1972 to form the URC were the first mainstream churches in Britain to ordain women and to recognize the right of churches to call ministers regardless of their sexual orientation. Today, the URC is also a multi-racial church and celebrates its ethnic and cultural diversity.

World-wide, the Reformed family of churches, which include Congregationalists, Presbyterians and Churches of Christ, are the largest Protestant communion, with around 90 million members.

This beautiful stained glass window, preserved from one of the churches which founded the united congregation at St Thomas', still graces the sanctuary.
